In 1994, a friend had a license to bring artists and students into Cuba. With Christiana Dittmann and Bruce McInnes, I photographed in Havana over the next ten years. I saw the cars of my childhood on the streets and it was a great thrill. The concept that evolved was to show the old cars as the 'vehicle' to describe the Cuban people and the city of Havana. The resulting pictures have humor, color, and are exciting and are exciting as an homage to the people who kept these cars on the road, despite the economic embargo.

The book we intend to publish is LIGHT HEARTS, HEAVY METAL. This is a project that needs an informed writer; the photographs easily cross the threshold into the realm of ‘art’.
